At Newcastle-on-Tyne- the new Australian'cruiser Sydney was launched by Mrs S. M. Bruce. ■ ■ Mr Bruce, replying to- the toast of the Commonwealth at a luncheon following the launching, said that a strong aiid efficient British navy was the greatest insurance of world-peace. Australia-.;’re-cognised that her own safety depended on the British navy, but had done more for her own naval protection than any other part of the Empire outside of Britain.
