ROYAL WEDDING
MAY BE BROADCAST
A MEMORABLE OCCASION
THF. CHOSEN DATE (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, 22nd September. The date chosen for Princess Marina’s wedding is the day before her 28th birthday, according., to the old Greek calendar.
LONDON, 14th September. _ Microphones have been installed in Westminster Abbey and consideration is being given to the possibility of an Empire broadcast of the marriage of Prince George and Princess Marina, says the “Daily Mail.’’ Although the broadcasting of a Royal marriage is unprecedented, high circles consider that a wonderful opportunity can now be afforded to millions of the King’s subjects all over the world to participate in the Homeland’s rejoicings on a memorable occasion. The relaying of the ceremony is feasible, the choral sections of the service being especially suitable. There will be ample too, for a microphone in the crowded streets. The question has been. raised, says the “Manchester Guardian,” whether Princess Marina will practise her own religion after her marriage to Prince George. It is pointed out that her great-aunt, the Duchess of Edinburgh, had a private chapel and a Russian priest always in attendance. The Duchess attended an Anglican service occasionally, buv did not consider Matins equivalent to the Greek Mass. Court circles believe that Princess Marina will regard the choral Eucharist as a satisfactory .substitute for Mass, in view of the Anglo-Catholic rapprochement with the Greek Church.
