CARS FOR ROYAL TOUR
arrangements explained ONE NEW CARRIAGE (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. In a statement Mr H. 11. Sterling explains in connection with the Royal visit that only one new railway car is being built. This is for the Duke and his immediate attendants. After the visit is over this car will become the Vice-regal car, and the present Vice-regal car will become the Ministerial car. The present Ministerial car was becoming obsolete for its purpose, and would be converted back into an ordinary carriage. Other cars for the Royal tour were being taken out of traffic, and alterations were being kept down to a minimum in pursuance with express mstructions from the Government that undue expense was to be avoided. Mr Sterling also said in. reference to the car for the Railways Board that the present car was unsuitable for incorporation in the Royal train, and was accordingly being taken back into service, and another car of more suitable design was being adopted for use as the departmental car. As in previous Royal visits this car would be used for the accommodation of railway officials required to travel with the Duke. Mr Sterling said that the shower bath on the departmental car was a very simple and plain type. As on the present car hot and cold water would be available in this car, in accordance with the practice already adopted in connection with sleeping cars in ordinary traffic.
