RUGBY UNITED WIN HUIA CUP The final in the Iluia Cup competition was played at Rugby Park on Saturday between United and Huia, the former winning comfortably by a margin of 23 points to 7. Both contestants fielded weak teams, particularly Iluias, who, had they not been defeated in the game, must have forfeited the match, as it was found necessary to build up the team with other than club players. Little interest was displayed in the fixture and the attendance of the public was; practically negligible. The opening score for United came from Burgess, who intercepting a pass near halfway shot through to the line for a nippy try. Burgess also added the major points. United 5-0. Huia exerted themselves and assailed the United defence for Lunn to score in the corner. Huia 3-5. United renewed the offensive and obtained their second try at the hands of Kinzett. United 8-3. An infringement by Huias soon afterwards, cost them another three points, Kinzett goaling with a nice kick. United 11-3. A rush by the Huia forwards took play to their opponents 25 from where Lunn, securing in a handy position, potted a goal. Huia 7-11. Just on halftime Farr and Burgess combined and finalised the. movement by the latter reaching the line. United 14-7. United opened the second spell by attacking vigorously and Huias were kept busy defending for some time. Kinzett and Burgess initiated a premising move, which, however, broke down and play eased to neutral ground. A solo effort bv Emmere carried the ball to Huia’s 25, the leather travelling across field for Farr to score. United 17-7.
