WARNED BY PARROT

HOUSE ON FIRE

OCCUPANT ASLEEP AT TIME

(By Telegraph—Press Association)

AUCKLAND, This Day

The screams of her pet parrot warned Mrs D. E. Simpon, of Alfriston, that her house was on fire. Mrs Simpson was asleep when she was awakened by the frightened screams of the parrot, which was in its cage in the bedroom. “Be quiet,” admonished Mrs Simpson, but tile bird was so persistent that she got up to investigate, and found adjoining sitting room in flames. The dwelling was quickly destroyed in spite of the efforts of several neighbours.
