MISS GAISFORD IN FINAL

SYDNEY, 10th September. In the Associates’ Golf Championship of Australia, Miss Gaisfovd, in the semi-finals, beat Mi’s Russell (Victoria), 4 and 2. Miss Kay was defeated by Mrs C. Robinson (Sydney), 1 up. Miss C. Lascelles replaces Miss Shirley Tolhurst in the Tasman Cup team, Miss Tolhurst being ill. There is still another defection in the Tasman Cup team, Miss L. Wray being unavailable. Her place will be filled by Miss Leslie Bailey,' of Melbourne; while Mrs Clive Robinson becomes captain instead of Miss Wray.
PLAY DESCRIBED SYDNEY, 10th September. Miss Kay largely owed her defeat to a number of missed short putts. Nevertheless her opponent played superb allround golf. She was accurate on the greens, sinking one 30-footer. Mrs Robinson gave the impression of going for everything, while the New Zealander was playing restrainedly. Both got a splendid length with their tee shots, and although their seconds were occasionally poor they made some wonderful recoveries. After being two down at the 13th, Miss Kay won tlie 14 th, halved the; J sth, missed a 3-foot putt to lose the 16th, and won the 17th. Both were on the green in three at the 18th and missed' short; putts and halved in fives to' give the Sydney player the match.T,v',.'.:.Y.7-
Miss Gaisfofd'tWaS* ton strong for Miss Russell, and turned one up. She lost the 10th, where, she took 3 putts, and then won the 11th.' Miss Russell was disqualified at the 12th for drying a hall which lodged in a pool of water. Miss Gaisford with two halves and two wins took the match at the 16th. WIN FOR LAFOON
NEW YORK. 10th September. In the Glensfalls golf .tourney Lafoon defeated Ruinyan by 67 to 71 in the play-off.
