CHRISTCHURCH FIRM’S DECISION

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. In response to the- appeal of the Prime Alinister. the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes that private employers should, if conditions of business warranted it, restore at least part of the wages cut. . Aulsebrook and Co. Ltd., restored 21 per cent, as from to-day. The decision affects 400 employees and the firm .makes a statement that if trading conditions continue to improve further restorations will be made.

AMENDMENT SOUGHT

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The following motion was carried at th e annua! meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Amalgamated Society' of Carpenters and Joiners; “That this union asks the national association to take,, immediate, steps to request the Government to amend the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act to permit application being made to the Arbitration Court for the restoration of the cut in wages imposed bv the general order of 29th May,. 1931.” The lien. Air Bloodworlh said that there is a movement in Auckland and Wellington foe a similar request. He believed if it- was gone on with the i(quest would receive favourable consideration.
