OBITUARY
MRS A. HENDRY There passed away at Masterton on 11th August Mrs Hendry, wife of Mr A. Hendry formerly of Nelson. Mrs Hmidry was bom at Nelson, and was the fourth daughter of the late Mr J. Patching ' Mr and Mrs Hendry celebrated their golden wedding last January. A husband and six cons are left to mourn their loss. MARLBOROUGH RESIDENT' MR FRANCIS NEAL The late Mr Francis Neal, of Marshlands, whose death, at the age of 63 years, took place recently, was the third son of the late Mr and Mrs T. N. Neal, of Marshlands (reports the .‘Express ). He was born at Waikawa, Picton, on 11th August, 1871. and was educated at the Rapaura school. He resided in this locality until 1889. when he returned to Marshlands to take up farming, and had lived there ever since. Although a keen agriculturist, Mr Neal nevertheless found time to take part in local body affairs, and was a member of the Marshlands School Committee, the Old Picton Road Board, the Pukaka Drainage Board, and the A. and P. Association. He always took a keen and active interest in sport, and as a member of the Awarua Football Club represented his district on many occasions on the field of Rugby. He was also a member of the Marshlands Cricket Club. He married Miss Lucy Allport, the second daughter of Mrs T. Allport and the late Mr Allport, and leaves a widow and a family of four sons and four daughters—Messrs Bertram, Leslie, Clifford, and Alick Neal, and the Misses May, Olive, Eileen, and Nola Neal.
LORD JUSTICE SCRUTTON (United ProHH Association—R.v EUotrie Toleprapb—Copyright) LONDON, 20th August. The death is announced of Lord Justice Scrnttou Lord Justice Serutlon was born on 28th August, 1856. He was educated at, Mill Hill School, University College, and Trinity. College Cambridge, where ho had an exceptionally brilliant career. Called to tlm bar in 1882 he took silk in 1901, and was raised to the Bench in 1910. In October 1916 he was appointed Lord Justice of Appeal. He was an authority on copyright and mercantile law. MR H. C. MAGPIE (Received 21st Autrust, 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The death has occurred of Mr H. C. Macfie, ex-Spanish Consul at Sydney, and head of the Clan Macfie.
