(By Telegraph—Press Association!
WELLINGTON, 17th August. A deputation waited on the Minister for Education (the Hon. R. Masters) to protest against the action of the Wellington Education Board in refusing to grant six months’ leave of absence without pay to Mr M. Kiske, M.A., a teacher employed by the board, to allow him to visit Russia. “I should like to say that this question does not come under my jurisdiction,” said the Minister in reply. “I have no jurisdicition whatever over the matter of whether or not Mr Kieke goes to Russia.- So far as resigning is concerned, Mr Riske may do so if lie wishes. He is just as entiled to a position on his return as anyone else. He may apply for any position in New Zealand, and provided lie has the right grading he must be
considered. “I cannot alter the board’s deei - siou. As a matter of fact, I have never interfered with the administrative affairs of education boards, and I do not intend to make a precedent in this case.”
