SHIPS DELAYED AT AUCKLAND
CREWS ATTEND SEAMEN’S UNION MEETING
(By Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, 17th August. The Union Steam Ship Company’s steamer Poolta and the motor-vessel Port Waikato did not sail for southern polls to-night, as was intended, owing to the crew of both vessels being required to attend a meeting of the Seamen’s Union to-morrow morning. The Poolta was to have sailed at G o’clock and the Port Waikato four hours later. Wellington being the first port of call for both vessels. Shortly before sailing time the master of the Poolta was informed that the men would not take the vessel to sea, because of a meeting the next day, and the master of the Port W r aikato was similarly advised. The delay to the vessels is not due to any dispute with the shipowners. It is understood that the meeting i,s only of a private nature, concerning Seamen’s Union affairs.
