OBITUARY
SIR JOHN SULMAN (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) SYDNEY, 18th August. The death is announced of Sir John Suhnan, F.R.1.8.A., President of the Town Planning and Public Monuments Advisoiy Boards; aged 85 years.
MR E. N. WARD SYDNEY, This Day. The death is announced of E." N. <* Ward, aged 63 years, curator of the Sydney Botanic Gardens, Centennial Park. He was bom in Yorkshire and was well known in many parts of the world. He had been ill but was listening to the cricket broadcast and announced that he would stay up until Bradman reached his double century. He collapsed almost immediately after the batsman had attained the feat.
SIR NIGEL PLAYFAIR (Received 20th August, 9.15 a.m.) r LONDON, 19th August. The death has occurred of Sir Nigel Playfair, actor and theatrical manager; aged 60 years.
HON. MAURICE V. B. BRETT LONDON, 19th August. Lt.-Col. the Honourable Maurice V. B. Brett, collapsed while grouse shooting at Callender, Scotland, while his wife, Zena Dare, was acting in Glasgow. The news was withheld until after the performance when she motored at midnight to Callender.
