CHURCH OF CHRIST

YOUTH WEEK Mr W. 11. Hibburt, Youth Leader of the Churches of Christ, is spending a month in the Nelson district. His work is Dominion-wide and covers the range of Sunday School work, Bible Class camps, conventions and youth organisations. He is a friend of youth and specialises on activities amongst adolescents. He expresses himself in strong terms that the Church has yet to adequately understand and effectively minister to the adolescent years. No movement ever rises higher than its leadership. He is busy in the endeavour to raise up more intelligent, consecrated and purposeful leaders for the adolescent section of church work. Given such leadership the church would show greater returns than any other specialised plan could yield, and in due time capture the oncoming generation. The Churches of Christ throughout the Dominion are at present observing what they style “Youth Week,” when young men and women share the responsibility and the activities of the Church. The Youth Department issues a special souvenir and motto to mark the occasion. This year it features youth as a gateway and Christ as the Gate to the abundant Life. The gateway carries the inscription “Big Gates Swing on Little Hinges.” Mr Hibburt commences an intensive programme at Waimea street. He will address the Church on Sunday morning and combined school in the afternoon, while in the evening service he will be assisted by twelve young men and women. On Monday evening he will lead a Teacher’s Institute; Tuesday evening a “Youth for Christ” service to' which all are invited. Wednesday lie will inspect the clubs, while Thursday is reserved for a social function. It is termed a Mirthquake Party, to celebrate the coming of age of Miss Joyous Jerm and Mr Happy Habit.
