NOTED PILOT'S -PREDICTION (By Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, 9th August. On the authority of Mr Bernt Balchen, the distinguished air pilot, it is possible that seaplanes will he in operation in the course of two years between New Zealand and the United states, carrying mails and passengers and taking 3-J days on the journey, by way of Honolulu and Suva. Mr Balchen said that commercial aviation was being developed extremely rapidly,,and it was common talk in flying circles in the United States that tins Pacific would soon he tackled by commercial airmen. It behoves New Zealand to be first in the field, he said, otherwise Aust:alia may be made the terminus. He expressed surprise that there was no air service between Auckland and Dunedin. The flight could be made in five hours. There was no excuse for holding back with aviation at its present state of development.
