LEVY ON WOOL
GOVERNMENT BILL SUPPORTED (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRisttHyRCH, Bth August. TJie executive of the North Canterbury branch of the Farmers’ Union after . a full discussion. decided to support the. Government Bill providing for a levy on wool to provide, a. fund for research, in relation to sheep, and wool. The meeting wag of the opinion, however, that, the money raised should be Used in. the greater part for the investigation of sheep diseases and sheep husbandry and not be confined to wool research. An amendment to the Bill to make this clear was recommended. It was also recommended that the levy should be sixpence , instead of fourpence a bale, because it was feared that fourpence a bale would not yield enough for effective work on many problems awaiting solution. A MASTERTON RESOLUTION . MASTERTON, Bth August. .. Members of the Masterton A. and P. Association at the annual meeting to-day favoured the proposal to a levy of 4d a bale on wool for research purposes. A motion seeking to enter a protest against the levy was heavily defeated. The meeting also favoui'ed the lifting of tiie embargo, on the importation of stock from Great Britain.
