KING'S BIRTHDAY
HOLIDAY FIXTURES FOR MONDAY
To-morrow is the King’s Birthday, but following the usual custom when it falls on a Sunday, the occasion will be celebrated by a general holiday on Monday. The chief outdoor attractions in Nelson will be the six-a-side hockey tournament, Rugby football and Association football. Tile hockey will bo played at the Botanical Reserve in the morning; the Rugby at Trafalgar Park in the afternoon, when the Country representatives play‘Town in the eighth annual match for the Max Shield, and the Association football competitions will take place at Victory Square. The Golf Clubs will play usual club competitions, while a team of men from the Nelson Club will be in Blenheim for the week-end to play Blenheim for the Moore-Reid Cup. At Tapawera the annual shooting competition for the Irvine Shield will be fired between the various clubs in the district, including Motueka, Korere, Waimea, College and Tadmor. It is improbable that the Nelson Defence Club will compete, but six of its members will go to Blenheim to shoot in the Marlborough championships. The newly-formed Nelson Tramping Club has arranged its first tramp for Monday—from the reservoir to Third House on the Dun Mountain track, returning via Jenkins Hill. No doubt the picture entertainments will be popular in the evening, and in addition there is the annual Scottish Ball and other dances both in the town and country districts.
