HOUSING SCHEMES

INTEREST OF THE PRINCE SOUND VIEWS EXPRESSED . . (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, 4th May. Speaking at the annual banquet to celebrate the opening of the summer exhibition of the Royal Academy, the Pl'ince of Wales emphasised the opportunity which the great housing schemes offered to architects. “I refer to rehousing of those workers who are still unfortunately living in lowly dwellings and under conditions' they should not be. Re-housing of these people can only he achieved by keeping rents down to one-fifth or one-sixth of their wages, and this can very greatly he helped by the co-operation of the architect and the building trade. From some study the whole solution appears to be in simplicity of exterior and interior design in order to provide the most up-to-date modern appliances, embodying conveniences, cleanliness, and labour saving. ’
