AUSTRALIAN AIR DEFENCE

NEW MACHINES ORDERED RANGE OF 300 MILES (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) MELBOURNE, oth May. The Minister for Defence announced that 24 Seagull amphibian planes have been ordered from England, the cost of which landed in Australia is £345,000. These machines may be catapulted from cruisers or seaplane carriers. They have a speed of 120 miles hourly at five thousand feet, and can dive at the rate of 200 miles hourly. Their range with a full bomb load is 300 miles.
