LONDON TREATY
CONDEMNED BY SIR R. KEYES MUST HAVE SINGAPORE BASE (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, Ist April. Sir Roger Keyes, M.P. condemning the London Treaty of 1931, declared that Japan attended the Naval Conference with her tongue in her cheek. He added: “I tell you as a naval man that Japan is untouchable. We must have a base at Singapore to protect Australia and New Zealand, and I thank God we shall have it in two years’ time. The battle of the navy must be fought out on th e Downing Street front against the Treasury and against the Government. The air force and the army and , navy must be brought up to a proper defensive standard.”
