UNEMPLOYED RETURNED MEN CONDITIONS IN CAMPS (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. After a keen debate marked by plain speaking, the, annual meeting of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association endorsed a motion passed by the Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association requesting tlte New Zealand Association to take immediate steps whereby the conditions affecting unemployed returned men may be ameliorated, and stating that the present conditions were nothing less than slavery. The president, the Rev. F. T. Read, said he hoped the motion would not, bo supported, as the camps in New Zealand could not he compared to slavery, hut other members said that the association had too long adopted a subservient attitude, and must now boldly demand better conditions for ex-soldiers.
