UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF
[To the Editor] Sir, —I noticed some time ago that Mr G. Page resigned liis position as chairman of the local Relief Committee which office he had held since the committee was set up. If I understood rightly his chief, if not only, reason for his action was the harsh or unfair treatment proposed to be meted out to some of our unemployed men. It lias been stated ' that the Employment! Board lias modified its conditions to a certain extent, and they are not now so drastic as contemplated. I think therefore it would be a good thing and in the interest of our relief workers if Mr Page could be induced to resume the chairmanship of the committee, and continue to carry oil the good m
work. He lias certainly devoted a great deal of time to the administration of relief among our unemployed, and lias a good grasp of the whole position. As one who lias recognised his services I feel sure that the relief workers would welcome his return to the position of chairman of the committee.—l am, etc., NELSONIAN. 30th April.
