NELSON DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB R. N. IN WOOD WINS TROPHY On the Wakapuaka range last Saturday the Nelson Dctonee Rifle Club fired a competition over 300, 500 and 000 yards ranges for a trophy generously donated by the Nelson Cash Cycle Company of Bridge street, Nelson. After an interesting competition the winner proved to he Rdlennm lb N. Inwood who shot consistently, his score being 30. 32, 31, hep. 5, total 98 points. The runner-up, Rifleman D. W. Oxnam, another young shot, put up quite a good performance under the conditions which were against high scoring, there being a rapidly changing light in the early stages of tlie competition, but as the afternoon advanced dark clouds completely obscured the sun and made the sighting most difficult. The best scores at 300 yards were:— W. R. Martyn 33, followed by R. Mellet and S. A. Barnett. (33 is the stand, ard for this range). At 500 yards 34’s were scored by J. lb Coote, F. Sharland and IV. Martyn. These three lillemen reached the standard here. At 600 yards where the poorest, shoot, ing of the season was seen nobody reached the standard of 33 points, the best being 31’s by R. N. Inwocd and K. Inwood. The best range total off the rifle was made hv F. IT. Shnrhmd who scored 32. 34. 30 —96. The next best was W. R. Martvn’s 33. 34. 28—95.

A A. KENNTNO WINS HARRIS CUP During the afternoon opportunity was taken to fire off a tie for the handicap aggregate for the 1933-34 season. This took place at 609 yards range where W. A. Kenning defeated F. Shari and and R. N. Imvood. The conditions were: One compulsory sighter and five, shots to count. R. N. Imvood had 2 points handicap and after each h,ad fired his 5 shots the scores were equal and as each man had now to fire shot for shot until two of the three were eliminated, excitement amongst onlookers and competitors was evident. Each man fired his sixth shot—a four — and still they were equal. The seventh shot saw Imvood drop out with a three hut Shariand and Rolling each scored a four. Their eighth and ninth shots were fours and on the tenth shot Sharlaml dropped to a three while Kenning obtained a four and the Harris Cap.

lb MELLETT WINS GLEDHILL

TROPHY

At 300 yards range R. Mellett, R. N. Tnwood, J. Hunter, and A. Martin fired off for a trophy kindly donated by Mr F. CL GladliiH'. The conditions were one compulsory sighter and five shots with handicap to count. The details of this shoot-off were: —R. Mellett, 5 out 5, 4. 4. 4. 5. hep 2 ; 24. R, N. Imvood 5 out 4,5, 4. 3,5, hep. 2; 23. A. Martin 2 out 4. 2. 5. 3. 3, hop 4; Cl. J. Hunter 2 out 3. 3. 3. 4,3, hep. 3; 19.

Next Saturday there will be a shoot at 3CO yards range for the Shell Case donated by Colonel N. W. 13. B. Thoms. This competition will he fired under service conditions: 7 shots deliberate, 7 shots snapping, 7 shots rapid.

WAIMEA CLUB

The Waimea Defence Club fired a. match between the married and single members on Saturday last. The best scores at 500 yards were Brown 35, Hammond 34, G. J. Robertson 53; at 600 G. J. Robertson 35 and Brown 33. The match was won by the single team by 46 points. Following are the scores: — Single Team
