JUNIOR FRIENDLY MATCH Th Nelson Thistle juniors met Tahunanui Athletic juniors on Victory Square on Saturday in a friendly fixture, before a good attendance. Mr Thomason was referee. -The teams lined up as follows: Thistle juniors: Webby, Hughes, Edridge, Bateup, Mayers and Kidsoni, Crooks, Connelly (captain), Twort, Wilding, and Paterson. Athletic juniors: Henderson, K. Anstice, Snowden, Malcolm, Richards (captain), Turner, Banks, Ross, D. Anstice, Briggs, and Telfer. Thistle won the toss and Athletic kicked off. Play right from the start was very spectacular. Both teams attacked in turn, but both defences were safe. Thistle attacked and Henderson brought off a splendid save. Keeping up the pressure Thistle forced a fruitless corner. Athletic juniors now attacked and forced a corner, Ross having a shot which went jntsb. After a series of “throws in” Crooks had a good shot for Thistle which just missed. Athletic, led by D. Anstice, gained ground. Ross passing to Banks who sent into the goalkeeper’s hands. Half time arrived with no scoring. • Thistle restarted the game and attacked right away, but Richards and Turner cleared. Not to be denied Thistle attacked on the left and Paterson sent in a high shot which went in just under the bar, Henderson having no chance. Thistle 1, Tahuna Athletic 0. \ Thistle were gradually assuming the upper hand, only good defensive work keeping them out, until Mayers had a shot which glanced off a defender into the net. Thistle 2, Athletic 0 Shortly after.Mayers again scored, the game ending with no further scoring: Thistle juniors 3, Talnina Athletic 0.
