ANNUAL REPORT

The annual report stated: “Again we have come to the end of a very successful year. The number of financial members has increased from 17 to £4. Eight meetings were held during the year, none being held in February and March on account of the tobacco harvest. During the winter we held a wool and fancywork display and a dance, these proving very successful functions in every way. At the beginning of the winter an appeal was made to members for warm clothing. This brought an excellent response, with the result that two large parcels were sent to Nelson for distribution among the poor and needy. “Our second birthday was celebrated on 31st August, when a very happy and largely attended party was held, the guest of honour being our provincial president, Mrs Forsyth. A number of competitions have been held during the year, the member gaining most points being Mrs J. Fowler, with Mrs P. Davies second. To add to the interest of meetings, roll calls were initiated, much useful information being gathered in this way. Two demonstrations have been given, one or poultice-making by Nurse Stewart, and the other on the making of bags from motor tubes by Mrs M. Cozens. During the year one member was assisted under the houskeeper auxiliary scheme. “Our thanks are clue to the Dovedale branch of the Farmers’ Union for a donation of £1 towards the wool display ; to Nurse Stewart and Mrs Cozens for demonstration; to Mr Fowler for auditing the books, and to all others who have assisted us in any way during the year.”
