PANDEMONIUM IN THE CORTES TUMBLERS THROWN; BLOWS EXCHANGED (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyrigh l) MADRID, 20th April. Taunting the Monarchists, ex-Minis-ler Signor Prieto provoked pandemonium in the Cortes, where tumblers were hurled back and forth. One deputy was hit oil the head. 1 Signor Prieto grappled with the Monarchist, Signor Albanina, and knocked him out. The Cortes, when calm had been restored, granted tn amnesty to 8000 political prisoners. Anti-Fascist demonstrators in Central Madr ; d meanwhile collided with the police, who wounded two and shot dead a horse. PROTEST STRIKE MADRID. 22nd April. A general strike of 24 hours has begun as a protest against to:-dajy’s demonstration organised by the Catholic Popular Action Party, when Gilrobles was expected to address 40,000. Robles declared that the party is not associated with Fascist or similar organisations. SHOOTING AFFRAYS TWO POLICEMEN KILLED (Received 23rd April, 12.35 p.m.)) MADRID, 22nd April. Following a 24 hour strike us a Left Wing protest against, the Catholic demonstration. which 30,000 uninterruptedly attended, several shooting affrays occurred. Two policemen arc reported killed. A bomb exploded in the centre of the city. Police protecting the ollicc of the Catholic newspaper “El Debate” fired a volley early in tlie evening, wounding a visiting English studcnl. Order was subsequently restored. Several disturb- j ances are reported in the provinces. 1
