IMPORTS INTO MANCHUKUO

AGITATION FOR DUTY

PEKING, 9th April

Japanese milling interests are agitating for a 30 per cent, ad valorem duty against Australian flour, which is now Dominating the Mancliukuo market, declares the “Manchuria Daily News.” The paper quotes figures showing that during the first three months of 1934 2,024,000 bags of Australian flour were imported through Dairen against a. total of 1,665,000 during the wlioie of 1933.

Of the total import of 1.283,000 bags into Dairen during March, Australia’s share was 647,000- bags, compared with the Japanese total of 587,000 hags and America’s 43,039 bags.

Lower prices and superior quality are given ns chief reasons for tlie popularity of the Austialian product
