NEW FIRE STATION
THE remarks made by the chairman of the Nelson Fire Board yesterday will .have been read with interest. Mr Moffatt reiterated the main reasons given at the last meeting of the Board for spending approximately £6OOO on the new station. The present shod has been used for over sixty years, and no one questions the need for a new building. In stipulating that a good watersupply should be a condition precedent to a new station the Loans Board simply pointed out what was obvious to all. It has accepted the Council’s assurances that the water question is being adequately dealt with. It is impossible to question the wisdom of tile insistence also on a building which will withstand earthquake shock as far as possible. It will not be contended that a building which suited requirements of nearly seventy years ago should suffice to-day. Therefore, in rebuilding tile Fire Board must, as it is prepared to do, build intelligently and efficiently, and therefore economically. We trust there will he no further delay, and that soon the Nelson Brigade will be properly equipped in every respect for its vitally important duties.
