A NEW INDUSTRY

GREAT PROSPECTS EXPORT OF PASSION FRUIT JUICE Ivori Keri, famous, through New Zealand as tiie place where the first wooden tii'idge, the- first wooden and tiie first stone buildings in the Dominion were erected, is likely to make a name lor itself by the export of fruit juice. This is the opinion of Captain T. Wood, an English visitor, as expresslo to a Christchurch “Times' reporter. Captain Wood, a retired army officer, recently spent eight weeks there and thoroughly investigated conditions, lie may later make his home in New Zealand.

lie said that fruit juices w.ere becoming increasingly popular iu England and the market offered great possibilities. It was significant- that the growers round Keri Keri had entered into a-live-year contract for the disposal of the produce, a factory having been erected. It was his opinion that tiie new industry had a great future. One use to which the passion fruit juice could he put was in the mixing _of cocktails. The land in the Keri Keri district- was excellent for the purposes and reasonable transport was available on the river, which a scow could navigate. One of the first shipments would he made by the Rangitiki. A number of tiie lemon orchards in the district would reach maturity very shortly.
