* GUIDE’S NARROW ESCAPE (By Telegraph —Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, 7th April. A thrilling incident occurred during Iho retreat from an attempt to cross Fvf'fe’s Pass from the Mueller Glacier to the I.andsborongh Valley, undertaken by Messrs A. J. Scott (Christchurch) aiid D. W. Poster (Wellington), who were accompanied by Guide Vic Williams, of the' Mount Cook Hermitage. Guide Williams had a narrow escape when (lie upper lip of the schrund broke away as lie‘was cutting stops in the ice above it. The frarty was on the ice slope, and as all were roped together, nothing could have laved the others if the leader had been swept down. 1 *
