W. A. KENNING WINS WASTNEY CUP N, MANSSEN TOP SCORER OFF RIFLE Last Saturday the Nelson Defence Rifle Club tired the last of a series of ten shoots to count lor the Wastncy Cup. The conditions of fids shoot were 7 shots at each of 300, 500 and 600 yards ranges, the top five men to take 5. 4,3, 2 and 1 points respectively lor the cup. When the last shoot commenced the leading men were: W. A. Kenning, F. 11. Sharlfmd, and R. N. Inwood each 1-t points, and N. B. Manssen and K. Inwood each 11 points. , , Interest was sustained to the very last shot, and consistent shooting on the part of \V. A. Kenning gave him the Cup. Those who received points last Saturday were: N. Manssen 5, N. B. Manssen 4, B. B. Jones 3, W. A. Kenning 2 and F. Sharland 1. The lending men for the Wastncy Cup were: W. A. Kenning 16, N. B. Manssen 15, F. Sharland 15. 11. N. Imvood 14, K. Inwood 11, W. Martyn 9, L. Cole 8, If. Frank 6, B. B. Jones 6, E. C. Russell 6. and eleven others with scores ranging from 5 to 2 points followed. The shooting last Saturday was not up to the usual high standard of the club, and this was noticeable at 500 yards where the highest scores were only 32. A rifleman' can usually find some excuse for his poor score, but strangely enough none was offered last week. The best score at 300 yards, however, was made by F. H. Sharland who put on a 34. At 600 yards the best score was made by N. Manssen—a. 33. He also had the best total for the day with 33, 31, 33—97 off the ride, thus winning the senior Feathers and spoon, while his son, N. B. Manssen won the ■junior Feathers and Spoon with 31, 29, 28, hep. 9—97.

MILROY SHIELD

Next Saturday Nelson (holders) and Marlborough (challengers) will fire a team’s match of 10 men a-side for the Milroy Shield. This match always provides some good shooting'and an exciting finish, and this year’s competition should bo no exception to former matches. Special importance is attached to this year's match as each province has had an equal number of wins. It is understood that Capt. Masefield will be unablo to shoot for Marlborough this year, and FI. Frank will ho unable to Lake his place in the Nelson team.
