SLUICING COAL
Ml! FORBES WATCHES UNUSUAL PROCESS DUNEDIN, 23rd January. Coal mining by an unusual method was seen bv the Prime Minister, the lit. Don. G. W. Forbes, this mprnjiill' when lie visited Coal Creek,, near Roxburgh, where sluicing is used to remove coal from a hillside. Three huge jets of water played on a t liff. bringing -coal down to the Hat, where it is allowed to dry and is then carted away. This coal is also remarkable because it is the only coal in New Zealand which can be made into briquette. l , without binding material, pressure alone being sufficient.
