Welsh on a charge of larceny, his release on 4000 dollars bail, and the acceptance pi his resignation as Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Mines from the Newfoundland Government, provided sensations to-day as the Department of Justice continued its investigation into the thefts of stamps from the Government’s 120,000 dollars collection, the Minister is charged with having appropriated three bound volumes of unused stamps valued at between 5000 and 6000 dollars from the closed Newfoundland Museum, housed in the same building as his department. Total losses from the museum and the St. Johns Post Office are estimated at 60,000 dollars. Other arrests are expected within a collected by the Government for over half a century have been stored in the two buildings for safe keeping.
