EXCHANGE OF SEASONAL GREETINGS t Expressions of goodwill and the season’s greetings were exchanged between the Mayor (Mr W. J. MoffattL members of the City Council and the Council staff at a happy gathering held in the Mayor’s room at the Municipal Chambers last . evening, when the Mayor, following his usual practice on the last Council meeting of the year, was the host. A toast list was honoured and good humour and jollity pervaded the gathering. One of the features of the evening: was the appearance of the Mayor in a? new -role—that of a vocal soloist, and in this part he was most successful in the rendering of “Britannia’s tile Pride of the Ocean,” into the chorus of which the company joined heartily. Various councillors and members of tlie staff expressed best wishes and seasonal greetings- to the Mayor and Mrs Moffatt, and reference was made to the good feelings and confidence which existed between the Mayor and the members at the Council table. The Mayor heartily reciprocated the remarks, and in thanking the councillors and the staff for their assistance at all times, wished them a bright Christmas festive season and prosperity in the New Year. The toast list included The King, the Mayor, Senior Councillor Watson, who gave an account of his recent trip to England; the ex-Town Clerk, Mr G. A. Edmonds; the staff; the Press, and Councillors Washbourn and Russell, who up to that time had not been on their feet during the function. Councillor Huggins contributed a recitation. Tlie singing of “Auld Lang Syne”' brought a liapny function to a close after midnight.
