PARKING OF CARS
TRAFFIC CONGESTION IN HARDY STREET COUNCIL COMMITTEE'S RECOMMENDATION With a view to relieving traffic congestion in Lower Hardy street, a special City Council commmittee appointed to consider the provision of additional car parking places, has recommended that white lines be marked along each side of the street, within which cars arc to be parked. It is considered this will allow for a wider channel for traffic. The committee, consisting of Councillors S. A. Gibbs, W. Black, and F. W. Huggins, made the- following recommendations to last night's meeting of the Council:— L—That the matter of the provision of additional parking places be deferred pending further investigations and that in the meanwhile white lines be marked eight feet from the kerbing on both sides of Lower Hardy street with a view to ascertaining what effect they will have in relieving the congestion in'that street. 2.—That the traffic inspector be instructed to prepare a sketch of the central portion of the city showing the present parkins places and such other places as are available for further parking accommodation, such as YVaimea street (Hardy street to Bridge street), Trafalgar street North, Victoria Avenue and Nile street, West. Councillor Gibbs said the committee thought it would be a good thing to give- the scheme a try out in Lower Hardy street where quite a lot of cars were parked well out from the kerbs. Tt would be an inexpensive matter. The report was adopted.
