CHARGES AGAINST NELSON
FURTHER EVIDENCE HEARD (By Radio —Special to United Press Association) APIA, 19th December. Tlie opening address in the Nelson case concluded at 10 a.m. Inspector Braisby, the first witness for the prosecution, outlined the history of the Mau from 1926, including the principal events that followed to 1930, when the Mau was declared a seditious organisation. He referred tp the creation of a disturbed area, the naval visit to assist the civil police, and the subsequent quiet period during 1931 and 1932. On the return of Nelson on 16th May, witness mentioned the receptions that followed, and the renewed activities of the Mau, including unlawful taalolos on 13th and 27th September, the concentration of the Mau, and the secret organising of a new Mau government at Vaimoso; also the organisation of Mau malages around Upolu and Savaii to develop Mau activities. Witness detailed the police search of Tunefu and the seizure of papers and documents, approximately 120, and the examinations of the documents, followed by the arrest of Nelson. Documents relating to Nelson and the Mau activities were read in Court. Evidence was not concluded when tl’.a Court adjourned at 4 p.m.
