The funeral ol thehita Mr William 11. Simpson, sub-editor of ‘ 'I lie Mail” took place yesterday altcrnoun, the large and icpresentativc attendance indicating the nigh esteem in which lie was held by citizens generally. Lock and 1. A. 11. Field, ex-Mavors and members of the various societies and organisations of which the late Mr Simpson had been closely associated. There were about 30 cars in the funeral procession. ami manv beautiful floral emIflctns covered tlie casket. The pall bearers were Messrs K. (I. Lucas, t . S. Spear and E. R. Marris of "Tlie Mail”; J. Wigzell and N. Austin (Horticultural Society) and G. Wearing, kern .Society. The chief mourners were the four sons of the late Mr Simpson, and Mr Geo. Simpson, of Wanganui, the only brother. As the, cortege passed "The Mail’’ premises on its way to the Wakupuaka Cemetery, the machinery was stopped and the staff stood outside in silence as a last mark of respect. The Rev. das. Hay conducted a brief service at the late residence of Mr Simpson and also officiated at the graveside. Tlie Rechabite service was read by P.C R. Bro. H. Sharp.
