RETURN TO OLD STATUS GOVERNMENT’S PLANS SEQUEL TO INVESTIGATION (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) ST. JOHNS (Newfoundland), 27th Novembers Newfoundland’s return to her old status as a Crown colony became viruallv assured to-day as the Government told the Legislature its plans for giving immediate effect to the recommendations of the' Royal Commission that investb gated the island dominion’s financial and economic position. Tha-Speech from the Throne said that sweeping changes in the country’s government structure held out the possibility of freedom from unprecedented difficulties. -
The Prime,Minister, Mr Alderdice, declared the suspension of the island’s constitution and its substitution by a commission to be in the best interests of llie country. 1
There was no debate on the proposals, the Legislature adjourning till to-morrow when the debate will begin. An amendment calling for a week’s adjournment, proposed from the Opposition benches in the Lower House by Mr F. G. Bradley, was defeated. ASSEMBLY APPROVAL (Received 29th November, 1.20 p.m.) ST, JOHNS, 28th November. The Newfoundland House of Assembly on Tuesday night approved of a recommendation that Newfoundland return' to the status of a Grown colony until self-supporting again.
