MR FRANK MILNER

GREAT IMPRESSION ADDRESSES IN AMERICA The wonderful impression made by Mr Frank Milner at the Boston Rotary Convention was mentioned by Mr T. C. List, Governor of Rotary in New Zealand, who returned by the Maunganui yesterday. “Rotarian Frank Milner’s address to the Boston Rotary Convention will long be remembered by all who were present,” declared Mr List. “It was the outstanding address in five days of most striking speeches, and he received from the 9000 to 10,000 people present a tremendous ovation. After tliat he was besieged with invitations to speak at Rotary Clubs all over the United States. Then came invitations from secondary schools, teachers’ summer schools and universities. They could riot possibly all be complied with, but we did our best to cover the country in the time at our • disposal, receiving everywhere the. most cordial and enthusiastic reception. When I left to connect with nm boat Mr Milner was flying all over the country, taking sometimes two meetings a day. The burden of his addresses was the need for understanding and friendship between America and Britain if the world was ,to be saved from the possibility of another war, and if its economic structure were to be rebuilt on staple and durable lines, and it was clear from what followed at each meeting that he had not spoken in vain.” There was a good deal of misunderstanding of Britain and its world policy even to the point of distrust and suspicion, amongst Americans, added Mr List, and’ no finer work could be done than the endeavour to remove these and create a better and more friendly feeling. He felt sure there was no better instrument by which this could be done than that possessed by Mr Milner, who rose to the fullest heights of his gifted oratorical powers and simply captured his audiences from the outset.

Mr Milner is attending the Pacific Relations Convention at Banff, Canada, after which he will tour California, at the insistent call of the principal local Rotary Clubs, and will leave Vancouver for Auckland by the Monowai on 16th September.
