NELSON EDUCATION DISTRICT
PROPOSED EXTENSION OF BOUNDARIES REPORT BY CHAIRMAN At the meeting of the Nelson Education Board yesterday afternoon the proposed extension of tlie Board's boundaries came up on a letter being read from the Wellington Board stating that consideration of the Nelson Board’s proposal had been deferred for six months in order to afford the Marlborough people, if they so desired, opportunity to express an opinion thereon. The chairman (the Hon. W. H. McIntyre, M.L.C.) reported that as instructed, lie had visited Christchurch and met the city members (five in number) of the Canterbury Education Board in connection with the proposed alteration. He was very courteously received, and after addressing the members present was assured that the Nelson Board’s proposals would receive sympathetic consideration when the Board met on Friday last. The press report to hand that the Canterbury Board had decided to support the nroposals was very gratifying indeed. As far as the Marlborough area was concerned matters were in train, replies were coming in from the committees, and the question would be dealt with at the proper time. The chairman went on to say that he regretted that the Board was not being fairly treated by the local press, and that he had been compelled to write a correction to what he termed “gross misrepresentations” contained in the paper’s leading articles. The chairman was thanked for his report, which was received.
