MAGISTRATE’S COURT
At the. Magistrate’s Court before Mr T. E. Maunsell, S.M., yesterday afternoon, George James Beere, aged 35 years, was charged with the theft at Taluina on 19th July, of one iron plane, one screwdriver, one sharpening stone, a pinch bar and 41b.s spikes, of {lie total value of £2 Is od.
On tlie application of Detective F. Sinclair, who stated there) wore further charges pending, accused was remanded to 4th August. Sydney Wicks was convicted and ordered to pay costs 10s for travelling on 30L1 1 June, from Nelson to Tapawera on the N.Z. Railway on a privilege ticket, such ticket having been purchased by Leslie James Gardiner and transferred to defendant. Senior Sergeant A. Stark stated that accused, who was under the influence of liquor at the time, went to the station with Gardiner who is a superannuated railway servant and entitled to a privileged ticket. Defendant had staled that he gave Gardiner 3s with which to purchase the ticket, but Gardiner had secured a privileged ticket for lOd, and defendant had travelled on it. Ills Worship: “Then Gardiner is the worse offender ?” The Sergeant agreed and explained that Gardiner was in Wellington at the present time and the proposed summons had not linen served on him. Defendant stated that he had given Gardiner 3s and did not know lie had purchased a lOd ticket. Travice Richard Holland was fined ss. costs 10s, on each of two charges of riding a cycle on the Stoke road at night without a light. Vernon Walker pleaded guilty to riding a motor cycle on the Stoke road without sufficient silencer. lie was fined 10s. costs 10s.
Gilbert Lusty was fined 10s, costs 10s, for riding a cycle on the SlokeRichmond road at night without a light.
