JUBILEE MEETINGS

CONGREGATIONAL UNION (By Telegraph-Press Association) AUCKLAND, Bth March. The Congregational Union of New Zealand was founded fifty years ago, and the jubilee annual meetings of the Union commenced to-day. About 100 delegates, including more tlian fifty from other parts of the Dominion, arc taking part in the conference. That a revival of the Puritan spirit is the great need of the Empire to-day was asserted by the Rev Harry Johnson, of Wellington, in the course of his presidential address. A large number of thinking men had arrived at the conclusion that the root cause of the crisis was moral. The Church must' exert its influence. People now lived in a pleasure-loving age, and duty did not rule them as it should. The alternative to the Puritan spirit was the pagan spirit.
