NELSON AERO CLUB
SELECTION OF SCHOLARSHIP TRAINEE N. J. ROWE THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT For some time past the committee of the Nelson Aero Club lias been engaged on the difficult task of selecting, from numerous applicants, a candidate to fill the position of Scholarship trainee and Mr N. J. Rowe has been selected. The Scholarship has been provided by the Marlborough Aero Club to stimulate interest in aviation amongst the young men of the Nelson district. The successful applicant will be taught to fly free, up to the standard required for an “A” pilot’s ticket. The Scholarship is valuable in two respects. Firstly, it represents a value in tuition of over £3O and secondly it puts a young man in a position to avail himself of the opportunities offering in aviation today.
Mr N. J. Rowe, the selected candidate was a prefect at Nelson College where lie won the Senior Sports Cup and was for two years in the First XV. The candidate has matriculated and this should be valuable to him as it is now one of the conditions for entrance to the R.A.F.
Mr Rowe is to be congratulated on his selection and his progress will be looked forward to with interest. It has been necessary to send the trainee to Blenheim to commence his work as the Defence Department year ends on 31st March and it is desired that the pilot’s ticket be issued by that date. Had the local Aerodrome been ready for training purposes the work would have been carried out here.
