NELSON DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB A POSSIBLE TO CARTER GOOD SCORING AT 500 YARDS The Nelson Defence Rifle Club bold a shoot at the Wakapuaka range on Saturday for Club prizes, 10 shots with two optional sighters at each 500 and 600 yards range, seventeen members competing. The weather conditions were good for shooting and several of the competitors were in good form and doubtless helped by the 1.931 ammunition which lias so far proved "good stuff", some excellent scores wore registered during the alteriioon, particularly at the 500 yards range. The standard for 10 shots at this range is 48 (possible 50) and T Carter headed the scores for this range with the possible—so. He was followed by S. Barnett with 49, one over standard, lie having dropped a point on his third shot, and W. A. Kenning also with 49. Kenning lost, a point on his eighth shot. Next came three standard scores of 48. put on by R. Norris. E. C. Russell, and B. B. Jones. N. Manssen and W. R. Martyn followed with 47 each. At 600 yards, a difficult range at Wakapuaka. tho standard for 10 shots is 47 and W. R. “Martyn exceeded this by 2 points, putting up- the good tally ol 49—his ninth shot, being a 4. Four competitors reached the standard mark —P. F. Burn, T. Carter, S. Barnett, and N. Manssen each getting in a 47, followed by H. Frank with 46. With his oO at 500 yards and 47 at 600 yards Carter won the spoon and feathers for off the rifle, his score exceeding the total standard by 2 points—a very good shoot. Martyn was not far away with his 47 at. 500 yards and 49 at 600 yards, handicap 1—97; and ho won the handicap spoon and feathers. The shoot counted for the Wastney Cup and the first five take points 5,4, 3,2, 1 respectively. Next Saturday a match will be fired against the Waimea Club at Wakapuaka if it can be arranged, otherwise the club will hold a shoot over 300, 500, and 600 yards. Tlie following are details of the scores:

Given the requisite number of entries tire prize list amounts to over £6O distributed in 145 prizes. As this is a handicap meeting it should prove popular with riflemen and a largo entry is anticipated. Shooting commences at 8 a.m. sharp and the club at Motueka. have all the arrangements in hand for the meeting.
