A circular letter'from the Department of Health was received at to-day s meetiiiij- of tlie Nelson Hospital Board advising that in cases where the cost ot running small public maternity hospitals embarrassed a board, such institutions should be leaned to a doctor or midwife, the board making a grant to cover indigent cases treated at the hospital. The chairman, Major R. Dagger, saul lie would'point out in regard to that matter that the Nelson Board could take satisfaction in its action m inspect of'the Motueka Cottage Hospital. After hammering at the Department- tor two years and after meeting opposition from* the Motueka public, the local board had made a satisfactory lease ot the hospital. Nelson had given a lead to other places in this matter and now the Department was taking a leaf out of Nelson’s book and recommending it to other boards.
