SYDNEY FESTIVAL WEEK
NEW ZEALAND REPRESENTATION The likelihood of New Zealand, a sister dominion of the Empire, being represented in the great pageant of Sydney Festival Week in April next, is affording intense satisfaction to the people' of Australia; ' The pageant trill"He the outstanding spectacular feature of the culminating day of a Gala Week, which is to be an annual affair. Inspired by the success of the now world-famous Pageant of the Sydney Harbour Bridge Celebrations, the committee which was responsible for the celebrations lias, under the name of the Citizens’ of Sydney Organising Committee, been constituted a permanent organisation for carrying out national events of a similar nature. Sydney Festival will represent the committee’s first activity. Tlie Festival will be an annual affair. The meeting at the Trade Commissioner’s office appointed a committee to suggest the necessary arrangements for presenting the float, and to submit a design emblematic of both islands of New Zealand. It- was thought that a replica of a Maori war canoe, carried out in flowers, would appeal to all New Zealanders. It is intended that Maori braves shall “man” the canoe which will be of warlike proportions. The committee includes Mr Louis J. Schmitt, the Trade Commissioner for New Zealand; Mr H. L. S. Havyatt, solicitor, of Sydney, who is a New Zealander by birth; Mr Stanley N. Wright, a well-known Sydney theatrical identity who has New Zealand interests; Mr D. S. Annand, a well-known commercial artist; and Captain Collum, who is organising secretary of the Citizens’ of Sydney Organising Committee. With arrangements in the hands of this committee the Dominion should be well represented.
