... the latest Austin Seuen model—the ‘Baby' is more amazing than euer. 1 mas impressed. The wide squarencut doors giue easy entrance and exit . . . Cfhey'ue fitted a petrol tank with petrol pump feed. The Saloon model costs only £l9B, f.0.b., main ports, tfou couldn't improue on it further if you tried Oh 11jes 1 There’s a petrol gauge on the new instrument board, and those lamps on the De Luxe model certainly are a smart touch. IDhat a wonderful difference it makes, this insulated engine suspension there has been so much talk about. 1 saw it at the Austin Dealer’s in town ... the fellow there told me lots of interesting things about it and the rest of their new range of cars. They are offering a choice of 26 body styles altogether, and all models haue numerous improuements throughout, making the cars finer to look at, more comfortable to driue, euen better in performance, yet still as outstandingly dependable. The Advertising Association’s Research Department has been engaged in investigating the balance-sheets and profit and loss accounts of the leading English businesses with a view to discovering how far success and advertising go together. The figures of 1664 large companies, whose reports were issued during the twelve months ended 15tli April, 1932, have been examined. Of these, 313 increased their profits. A further 139 show a. decline of less than 10 per cent, on the previous year’s profits. Of this total of 452 no fewer than 311, or almost 70 per cent., arc concerns which advertise. Here we have a clear indication that businesses which have the courage to keep u]> or increase their advertising in times of depression stand more .than twice as good a chance of maintaining or increasing l.heir’ profits than those which do not.
