THE NELSON CLUBS SEMI FINALS OF COMPETITIONS The semi-finals of some of the principal competitions of the Nelson Golf Club were played over the week-end under very favourable weather conditions. SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP Rattling off the first nine holes in 36 to be 4 up against P. Moore, N. Yercoe went on to win 6 and 5. Vercoe was right on the top of Ids form, and finished up with 79, in spite of finding the swamp with his drive at the 16th. F. W. Huggins and R. Stedman had a more even battle, Stedman winning 2 up and 1. Stedman turned for home 1 up, and won the next two. Huggms took Spionkop and the 15th. leaving Stedman 1 up once more. The 16th was halved. At the 17th Stedman’s put- lay on the lip of the hole for a certain half. Huggins, in playing the like, sent his opponent down, to give him the match 2 and 1. COCK CUP Baxter and Waring played off the semi-final for the Cock Cup (“C” grade), but their play, particularly that of Baxter, was more in the senior championship class. Baxter went round in 81, doing the second half in 38, Warring’s total was 88. Warring was 2up at the turn, hut his opponent then took the upper hand and won 3 and 2. Boyes and Lorimer had a very keen match, Boves was 2 urt at the 14th, but Lorimer won three out of the next four holes and gained the verdict 1 up. FOUNDERS’ CUP Langbein and N. Trent were the semi-finalists in the Founders’ Cup. Langbein won 3 and 2, and meets Bone in the final. LEGGATT CUP Tlie finalists in the Leggatt Cup are Masefield and Thomas. The finals in each event will be played over 36 holes next Saturday. CAPTAIN’ STROPHY In the Captain’s Trophy Baigent beat Baxter and goes into the final. Ralfe beat Thomas and reached the semi-final. P. Moore plays tlie winner of G. F. and 1. Dodds (who have played two drawn games). INTER-CLUB MATCH A very cordial welcome was extended to a Nelson team, which visited Takaka during the week-end, by tlie members of tlie Takaka Club Four-ball and singles matches were played, Takaka winning six, Nelson four., and two were halved. Results were as follows (Takaka qames first): — Hill and Wright lost to McNiven and Vercoe. Emms and T. Baigent beat Mitchell and Campbell-Smith. Milward and Parkinson beat Bradshaw and West. Kirk and B. Baigent and Davis and Dawson all square. Hill lost to McNiven. Emms lost to Mitchell. P. Baigent lost to Davis. Milward beat Bradshaw. Parkinson beat West. Kirk beat Dawson. T. Baigent beat Campbell-Smith. Wright and Vercoe all square. MARLBOROUGH CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP In the final of the Marlborough Club senior championship Jeffries beat E. Reid.
