BRITISH WAR LOAN CONVERSION

PROGRESS OF OPERATION (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, 12th August. A Treasury announcement as to the l progress of the war loan conversion operation up to the end of the bonus month is expected next week. Much progress lias been made with the great volume of mail received in the last few days of July and for some days afterwards. The delayed post, consisting mainly of letters from abroad, was unexpectedly large. There were indications before 31st July that 1700 million pounds of 5 per cent, war stock would be converted to 3£ per cent, stock, and the final approximate amount shows a considerably higher figure total. Theamount of war Joan outstanding is 2087 million

City circles do not doubt the Treasury will be able to announce a very greatsuccess, and anticipate that apart from the benefits it will confer on the financial situation the operation will encourage countries witli conversion schemes in prospect.
