SPANISH REVOLT
SAN JURGO ACCEPTS RESPONSIBILITY (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) MADRID, 12th August. General San Jurgo arrived at police headquarters. He stated that he accepts the whole responsibility, and is prepared to submit to punishment. BACK TO NORMAL (Received 13th August, 11.5 a.m.) MADRID, 12th August. Spain is practically normal after popular rejoicings over the failure of the revolt, one result of which has been to establish the Republic more firmly in power. Most Monarchist and Catholic newspapers in Spain are suppressed. The arrests continue, including Primo de Rivera’s two sons. The Marquis of Destivel, whose chalet at Seville was General Sfln Jurgo’s headquarters during the letter’s brief regime, thrillingly escaped to Gibraltar after the mob had burned' down the chalet. The marquis and a friend motored to the coast, attempting to reach Gibraltar by motor boat; which broke down, whereupon the marquis swam to British territory, where many ofiicers implicated in the revolt are already in hiding.
