RETIRING S.P.C.A. INSPECTOR

PRESENTATION BY SOCIETY A very pleasant function was held at the Mai-Mni tearooms when the committee of the local Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals together with a few well-wishers of the societv met for the purpose of making a presentation to Mr F. Seed who has recently resigned as inspector after very many years service. The president, Mr 11. B. Walker, who presided, apologised for the unavoidable absence of Mrs (Dr.) Belt, Miss Maginnity, Miss Hunter-Brown and Mr 1. Taylor. In handing Mr Seed an envelope (which contained a cheque) Mr Walker 1 said lie felt sure lie was expressing the opinion of all lovers of animals that Mr Seed’s record was unique, inasmuch that bo bad been practically looking after the welfare of animals for at least 40 years, not only in this dominion but also in many other parts of the world, and bad always carried out bis work in a fearless and impartial manner, displaying great tact and patience in many cases'. Mr Seed bad always borne i" mind that tile society’s motto was “Prevention was better than prosecution. However, now and again one came against an offender who would not, he advised and then it was a case of prosecution, through the Magistrate’s Court. Tn wishing both Mr and Mrs Seed very happiness the president said his committee was not unmindful of the great help Mrs Seed had given in connection with this noble work, and regretted that owing to illness she was unable to be present,i but all wished her a specify recovery. Mr Seed, in thanking members of the society said bis heart had been in the work in which be bad interested himself over many years, but lie began to feel that the work was too strenuous for him and so resigned.
