CIVIL SERVANTS

FIRST 10 PER CENT. CUT

NO TIME LIMIT (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. There is no prospect of the first cut of 10 per cent, in the salaries of civil servants being restored at the end of the year. This was made clear by Mr Forbes in an interview. “No cuts will he removed,” said Mr Forbes. “The position is more difficult to-day than when the first cut was made.”

A good deal of misconception regarding the position exists among Government officers, many of whom believe that the legislation imposing the first cut of 10 per cent, expires on 31st December next. Those who hold this view have made a mistake in’their interpretation of the Act. There is no time limit fixed to the section of the Act dealing with the salaries of civil servants.
